May 19, 2021
While the month of May is meant to celebrate both the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, Pacific Islander (also known as Pasifika) folks are often tokenized or completely left out of the conversation and celebration.
Today I'm sitting down with Lilian Dirrebes, a Palauan American from Portland, Oregon to talk about her identity as a Pasifika person, how she's managed to stay true to her identity in a place so white like PDX, and how people need to be more intentional and considerate of the Pasifika community when we have these conversations around the "AAPI" umbrella.
